Description –

bigspark, a UK based consultancy delivering next level data platforms and solutions with a focus on exciting technologies including Apache Spark, Apache Kafka and working on projects within Machine Learning, Data Engineering, Streaming and Data Science is looking for a Chief Data Science Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis in a UK remote, work from home capacity with some attendance to client sites where necessary.

We provide the backbone for modern analytics to our clients through expertise in DevOps, distributed computing, machine learning and adoption of proven open source projects. We specialise in backend development, infrastructure automation and performance engineering for data workloads at scale.

We are currently seeking a Chief Data Science Engineer to drive the strategy and growth of our industry leading engineering practice. To be considered for this role you will be a thought leader in the data engineering & analytics space, with experience in building and running a practice area.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the bigspark leadership team, in growing and developing the team of consultants who are delivering cutting edge engineering programmes. As the chief you will be driving growth, identifying business development opportunities, and aiding the development of client proposals and propositions.

 

In your role of Chief Data Science Engineer you will –

  • Drive the strategy and growth of our industry leading data science engineering practice
  • Interact with customers, senior stakeholders and program management to understand client requirements and take accountability for team delivery
  • Contribute to the success of bigspark by analysing existing and potential markets to identify and secure new business development opportunities aiding the production of client proposals and bids
  • Take responsibility for the creation of reusable assets/accelerators, products, white papers/blog posts
  • Lead on the identification of market trends for your practice area and act as an advocate for new knowledge
  • Working with the sales team to ensure propositions are aligned to customer and market demands
  • Lead Sales meeting with perspective new clients
  • Build out sales pipeline for the respective practice
  • Lead on the creation and ongoing management of new vendor partnerships
  • Identify vendor products which fit strategically to your area and client demands
  • Support pre-sales activities using defined company assets
  • Be responsible for curating priority skillsets and identification of learning pathways to support
  • Create a collaborative culture, driving talent development, provide mentoring and coaching for those developing their careers in data
  • Be comfortable working across multiple projects and initiatives, driving the growth of new and existing data capabilities, engaging internal and external stakeholders
  • Understand the internal and external stakeholders’ views and expectations and ensure these are considered and communicated effectively
  • Action clients’ needs as priority, on time and according to bigspark standards
  • Understand and effectively communicate or present the benefits and value of the bigspark deliverables, both internally and externally
  • Develop and support scalable, extensible, and highly available data pipelines on heterogeneous datasets that power downstream applications
  • Lead multiple business units in a remote, work from home capacity with some attendance to client sites, where necessary
  • Actively foster and develop technical excellence across your team through individual support, coaching and development through regular 1:1s and continuous feedback
  • Lead the delivery of software development on client site, whilst collaborating with team members at various levels across the globe
  • Act as the hiring manager for new team members and the retention of existing team members

 

Your Skills, Experience and Qualifications –

  • Experience in an engineering leadership position – project / delivery / technical lead
  • Educated to at least BSc (Hons) level – preferably in Computer Science, Data Science or Mathematics
  • Experienced working within Financial Services / Consultancy in an engineering leadership related role
  • Experienced in project execution, business analysis and change management – proven ability to shape, design and manage the execution of development projects
  • Experience taking the lead in new business opportunities
  • Experienced in recruiting and developing teams
  • Extensive experience in building and deploying to cloud computing architectures
  • Proficient in bigspark core programming languages (Python, Java,  Scala)
  • Excellent Python and library knowledge e.g. scikit-learn, PyTorch, NLTK
  • Expert in clustering techniques, ensemble models, neutral networks and classification.
  • NLP experience
  • AI/ML experience in model deployment, monitoring and enhancements in Azure, AWS or GCP
